Information prior to the Midnight Sun Rally 14-17th July 2010
This years rally takes the form of a national competition with an international flavour allowing the opportunity for competitors from both Sweden and overseas to take part.
This year’s rally starts in Jönköping via Trollhättan, Karlstad and finishing in Västerås.
Prelimary programme and approximate times.
Wednesday 14th July, Jönköping (Elmia). 09.00 – 15.00 Scrutineering and control of Historic Rally cars. 12.00 – 15.00 Scrutineering and control of Regularity cars. 17.00 All cars to be in position at the designated place. 17.30 Opening ceremony for The Midnight Sun Rally 2010. 18.00 First car start SS 1 Elmia. 20.00 Welcome buffet for competitors and guests
Thursday 15th July, Jönköping - Trollhättan. 08.00 First car start from Elmia. There will be 3 stages, a pause for lunch and service, followed by 3 more stages. 16.30 Arrival of first car and service at SAAB Museum, Trollhättan. 19.00 Buffet dinner for competitors and guests close to the SAAB Museum.
Friday 16th July, Trollhättan - Karlstad. 08.00 First car start from Elmia. There will be 3 stages, a pause for lunch and service, followed by 4 more stages. 17.30 Arrival of first car and service at Färjestad’s Trotting Racecourse. 18.30 First car away on Super Stage with start and finish at Färjestad’s Trotting Racecourse. 19.00 Buffet for competitors close to Färjestads Trotting Racecourse. Saturday 17th July, Karlstad - Västerås. 08.00 First car start from Färjestads Trotting Racecourse. There will be 3 stages, a pause for lunch and service followed by 3 more stages. 15.00 Arrival of first car and service at Västerås. 15.30 First car start from Super Stage. 15.45 Arrival at the Fish Square, Västerås. 20.00–22.00 ”Mingle” buffet. 22.00 Prize giving ceremony followed by”open bar”.
In addition there will be mobile race control centres plus information, including a results service and rally organisers in close proximity, at Jönköping (Elmia), SAAB Museum Trollhättan, Färjestad’s Trotting Racecourse, Västerås (Fish Square). Rally Information (instead of the title Rally HQ) at Jönköping (Elmia), from application to the finish in Västerås, will be manned by 3 girls during the entire rally. Starting lists, results etc., together with answers to any other questions regarding the rally, may be obtained from Rally Information.
The number of competitors will be approx., 150, divided into the following categories: Regularity and Historic. The social aspect of such a large event has not been lost on us either! We have therefore chosen shorter rather than longer days of competition in order that competitors/teams will have the opportunity to relax together.
Regularity will start first followed by Historic Rally. Should anyone fail to finish a stage the opportunity to start the following leg will still be available, however a time penalty will be incurred.
Road section approx. 900 km with approx. 150 km special stages will generally be on smooth gravel surfaces with a small proportion on asphalt.

Regularity – Midnight Sun Rally 2010
The first 2 classifications, allow you to compete with Regularity and rally cars, manufactured no later than 1981. Competitors are required to compete in all road section , including special stages, as in the Historic Rally. This type of competition places a great deal of responsibility upon the co. driver (navigator). It requires an average speed of 50 kmh be maintained throughout all special stages.
During each stage it is more important to maintain an even tempo rather than high speed. There will be secret time controls during each stage where every second, early or late, will be recorded with one mark per second.
Regularity - classes
Class 1: Only the car’s original trip meter is allowed to be used Class 2: Extra trip meter may be used
The Midnight Sun’s Regularity classification is a precision rally and is driven on normal roads governed by general traffic laws, rules and regulations. There are also special stages (SS), selected by the organisers, which are required to be completed at an average speed of 50 kmh. During these stages the average speed will be checked at various points as well as at the finishing line.
Regularity competitors an average speed of 50 kmh , must be maintained. Repeated transgressions regarding the average speed will result in a warning and eventually, disqualification. This is to ensure competitors do not ignore this rule. If you wish to drive fast, then you should compete in the rally classification!
Class 1 & 2, Regularity As identification All competitors shall at the scrutineering present a valid FIA Historic vehicle identity form, FIA Regularity pass or a FIVA passport for the car.
Class 1, Regularity are only allowed to be fitted with the original, manufactured trip meter. In open top vehicles, during special stages, all occupants of competing cars are required to have helmets. Free choice of tyres.
Class 2, Regularity allow for extra mounted trip meter with a mechanical dial, operated by a mechanical or sensor and driven by a rotating spindle or wire. The following manufacturers are allowed: HALDA TRIP or Halda TWIN MASTER, BELMOGTWIN, AIFAB GEMINI, RETROTRIP, TERRATRIP, VH TRIP or others of a similar nature. The trip meter used shall be in it’s original condition and without any modification whatsoever. Under no circumstances will the organisers allow the use of a trip meter displaying the average speed and in that regard, reserve the right to inspect the trip meter at any time during the course of the rally. Any transgression will result in disqualification! In open top vehicles, during special stages, all occupants of competing cars are required to have helmets. Free choice of tyres.
Class 1 and 2 competing, forbids the carriage or use of electronic equipment e.g. GPS, mobile/cell phones, electronic timetables, for the purpose of navigation or measuring of the average speed. However, mobile/cell phones may be carried but switched off, during stages.
Class 1 and 2 allows competitors to compete with cars, normally standard production models, manufactured prior to 31st December 1981. Other types of seating than that fitted at time of manufacture are permitted, as are the fitting of seat belts and other safety equipment etc.. Historic rally cars and replicas of historic rally cars, are also permitted to compete.
In Regularity there must be at least 2 competitors occupying each car and the co driver, a minimum of 13 years old. The licence required by competitors must be available for scrutineering at the time of reporting on the day of the competition. Drivers must hold a current rally licence and the co driver, at the very least, a co driver licence.
It is also possible to have a temporary license for drivers, co driver contact the organiser of Midnight Sun Rally.
Advertising on the cars is permitted with the exception of the front fenders, front doors and sun visors above the front windscreen, which are reserved for the Midnight Sun Rally.
Timing to 1/10th of a second.
The rally is based upon the road book and driving is on both normal roads and other stages.
Regularity class 1 and 2 are not required to park cars in secure areas prior to the start of the rally or overnight between legs.
Historic – Midnight Sun Rally 2010
Historic rally cars up to and including 1981 compete in classes A1-D4. Cars are divided according to year of manufacture and engine capacity. Safety is foremost in our minds during the Midnight Sun Rally therefore it is extremely important that roll bars are fitted and are able to withstand impact when leaving the road. Ensure that you have a reinforced roll cage without having to increase anchoring points. Flame proof overalls, helmets etc., are to be worn by all occupants of cars. Whilst you yourself may not consider such necessities, we as organisers wish the rally to proceed as safely as possible.
Only cars with Appendix-K certification will be allowed to start the rally.

The rally is based upon the road book both for normal road and other stages.
Practice and the taking of notes is not permitted! During special stages no notes whatsoever will be permitted in competitors vehicles!
Start order for the first leg Regularity is A1 – D4 and from leg 2, according to placing after leg 1. Regularity will start first, after 20 minutes pause. Following that, the leading competitor will start first followed by 2nd, 3rd etc., etc., down to last place.
Drivers must hold a current rally licence and the navigator, at the very least, a co driver licence.

Last but not least – entry
Every entrant in Regularity must have, at the very least, an FIVA identity card and in the Historic Rally, certification for Appendix-K.
1st April publication of additional rules/regulations and application for entry. 20th April applications for entry close. 30th April posting of entrants and payment of entry fee. 8th May last date for receipt of entrance fees.
It makes no difference when you apply for entrance during the application period.
